Job description
About the role
Tesco is looking for Customer Delivery Drivers to join the team in Finglas Clearwater, Dublin. This role is central to the customer experience, as you are the first person many shoppers meet. The work is active, varied and practical, with no two shifts feeling the same. You will spend much of your day delivering independently, while still having support from managers and teammates at base whenever needed. Shift patterns vary.
What the role involves
- Deliver a high-quality home shopping service by keeping the customer at the centre of every delivery.
- Load the van where needed and make sure the vehicle is roadworthy before setting off.
- Follow the planned schedule and delivery route provided to you.
- Present yourself well in uniform and be ready to assist customers.
- Drive safely, responsibly and in line with road laws.
- Show courtesy and consideration to everyone on the road.
- Greet customers warmly and aim to provide service with a smile.
- Treat each delivery carefully and handle customer orders as if they were your own.
What you need
- A full Irish or EU driving licence, manual or automatic, held for at least 2 years.
- No more than 3 penalty points on your licence.
- A safe, considerate and responsible approach to driving.
- A genuine enjoyment of helping other people.
- A friendly personality, a good sense of humour and strong communication skills.
- The confidence to take initiative and use common sense.
- A customer- and colleague-focused attitude.
- The ability to stay composed when work is busy or demanding.
Recruitment conditions
As part of the hiring process, job offers depend on Garda Vetting. You must also provide proof of your current licence penalty points at assessment stage. This can be requested from the National Driver Licence Services (NDLS) by calling 1890 41 61 41, pressing Option 4 and quoting your driver number. If you have been disqualified from driving at any time in the last 10 years, the application cannot be accepted. If successful, your offer will also depend on you providing your bank account details before your agreed start date.
Working arrangements
This position offers a variety of shifts. Both part-time and full-time contracts are available, with weekly hours ranging from 20 to 39.
Pay and benefits
- Starting hourly pay of €18.24 for new drivers, plus an additional premium for Sunday work.
- Annual bonus scheme.
- Colleague Clubcard discount of 10% in stores and online, 15% on weekends once a month from Friday to Sunday, and 20% off twice a year; 20% off F&F clothing all year, with the option to extend discounts to a family member through a second Clubcard. Entry rules apply.
- Virtual GP service with free, confidential online consultations and prescription support for colleagues; reduced-cost access is also available for family members living at the same address.
- 24/7 Employee Assistance Programme offering immediate emotional support and access to wellbeing services for colleagues and family members.
- Life assurance.
- Pension plan, subject to scheme rules.
- Save As You Earn scheme, subject to scheme rules.
- Paid family leave.
- Bike to Work support.
- Long service awards.
- Commuter scheme.
