Role overview
As a Customer Delivery Driver, you will represent Tesco at customers’ homes and play a key part in delivering a dependable and friendly shopping experience. The job is not limited to driving; it also involves careful handling of groceries, clear communication with customers, and delivering service with a positive attitude. The work is active, varied, and practical, with every shift bringing something different. Most of your day will be spent working independently, while support remains available from managers and colleagues at the store base.
Working hours
The availability window for this role is:
- Sunday: 09:00 to 19:00
- Tuesday: 09:00 to 21:00
- Thursday: 09:00 to 15:00
- Friday: 09:00 to 19:00
- Saturday: 09:00 to 19:00
A minimum of 16 hours per week is guaranteed, and roles with 12 hours per week are also available.
Pay
Hourly pay begins at £14.18, and increases to £15.45 in stores located within the M25. Some locations may also include extra payments.
Key duties
- Maintain a clean, orderly van, tray area, and work space so shopping reaches customers in excellent condition.
- Load the vehicle safely and complete the necessary checks to make sure it is fit for road use and ready for delivery.
- Explain order substitutions, changes, or short-dated items in a calm and helpful manner, and process refunds where required.
- Handle all products carefully and treat each order with the same attention you would give your own groceries.
- Deliver orders within the promised time window and provide courteous doorstep service that leaves customers feeling appreciated.
What you need
You should be comfortable building good working relationships, contributing to a positive team environment, and delivering excellent service. A warm, approachable style is important both with customers and colleagues. You’ll also need to adapt quickly when customer needs or circumstances change while working in-store and on the road.
A valid UK, EU, or EEA driving licence is required, either full or automatic, held for at least 12 months, with no more than 3 penalty points.
Benefits
- Holiday entitlement starts at 20 days plus one personal day, rising to 22 days after 12 months, in addition to Bank Holidays.
- Flexible working options are available from the start.
- 10% discount with the colleague Clubcard, increasing to 15% on pay-day weekends, plus an extra card to share with family.
- Access to free wellbeing support covering mind, body, and life.
- Life cover worth five times your pay, together with a pension scheme that matches contributions up to 7.5%.
- Access to a choice of additional benefits, including discounts, shares, and cycle-to-work schemes.
- Uniform is supplied, along with policies designed to support key life moments.
