Job description
Role overview
Tesco is recruiting Customer Delivery Drivers for the Ardkeen area in Waterford. In this role, you will be the first person customers meet, so you will play a key part in creating a positive delivery experience and representing the brand at the doorstep.
The job is active, hands-on and varied, with every shift bringing different customer needs. You will spend much of your time out on the road working independently, while still having support from managers and colleagues at base when required. Various shift patterns are available.
What you will do
- Deliver a high-quality home shopping service with customer care at the centre of each interaction.
- Load the van when needed and complete checks to make sure it is roadworthy.
- Follow the route and delivery schedule provided for your shift.
- Present yourself professionally in uniform and be ready to assist customers.
- Drive in a safe, responsible and lawful manner at all times.
- Show courtesy and consideration to everyone using the road.
- Greet customers warmly, including using their name where appropriate.
- Handle deliveries carefully as though they were your own.
What you need
- A full Irish or EU driving licence, manual or automatic, held for at least 2 years.
- No more than 3 penalty points on your licence.
- A safe, respectful and responsible driving style.
- A genuine desire to help people.
- A friendly personality, a good sense of humour and strong communication skills.
- The confidence to use initiative and common sense.
- A customer-first attitude and care for colleagues as well as shoppers.
- The ability to stay composed when things become busy or stressful.
Recruitment conditions
As part of the hiring process, any offer will depend on Garda Vetting. You will also need to provide proof of your current penalty points at the assessment stage, which can be requested from the National Driver Licence Services (NDLS) by calling 1890 41 61 41, selecting Option 4 and quoting your driver number.
Applications cannot be accepted from anyone who has been disqualified from driving within the last 10 years.
If you are successful, your offer will also be conditional on providing your bank account details before your agreed start date.
Working pattern and contract
There are both part-time and full-time contracts available, with weekly hours ranging from 20 to 39. A variety of shifts are on offer, including Sunday working where an additional premium applies.
Pay and benefits
- Starting pay of €18.24 per hour for new drivers.
- Extra premium for Sunday shifts.
- Annual bonus scheme.
- Colleague Clubcard savings, including 10% off in stores and online, 15% off during a monthly Friday-to-Sunday weekend offer, and 20% off twice a year.
- 20% discount on F&F clothing throughout the year.
- The discount benefits can be extended to a family member through a second Clubcard.
- Virtual GP service with video consultations and online prescription support.
- Access to an Employee Assistance Programme 24/7 for colleagues and eligible family members.
- Wellbeing services covering body, mind and life support.
- Life assurance.
- Pension plan.
