Position Overview
We invite local professionals from Alice Springs and neighboring regions to express their interest in joining our team to support Justice Services throughout 2026. This opportunity involves providing essential security and care for individuals in custody within various operational settings such as courts and during transportation.

Role and Responsibilities
As a Custody and Transport Officer, you will be entrusted with ensuring the safety, security, and respectful custody of individuals entrusted to our care. Your duties will span managing operations at Local Law Courts, prisoner transport services in Alice Springs, and other related custodial facilities across the Northern Territory. You will work alongside Custodial Supervisors and the Operations Manager in a dynamic and evolving team environment.
- Oversee court cell management, escort detainees to/from courtrooms, and supervise individuals awaiting court sessions
- Conduct secure transportation of custody individuals to courts, medical facilities, hospitals, and custody centers
- Future responsibilities may include managing Secure Hospital Bedsits and Watchhouse Operations within Alice Springs
- Maintain thorough verbal and written reports concerning detainee information, incident documentation, assessments, and transport logs, ensuring compliance with legal standards
Working Conditions and Remuneration
- Shift work is required, primarily Monday to Friday with variable patterns
- Hourly wage of $34.75 plus superannuation benefits
- Up to six weeks annual leave entitlement
- $2,500 Northern Territory Remote Allowance provided after twelve months of uninterrupted service
Candidate Requirements
Ideal candidates are effective communicators, empathetic, adaptable to changing environments, and able to engage positively with community members. Experience in customer-facing roles and teamwork-based settings is highly favorable. Given the nature of the role, comfort with custodial settings and responsibility for individuals under care is essential. Applicants must:
- Hold a current, valid Australian driver’s license
- Be legally authorized to work full-time in Australia without restrictions
- Have full color vision, critical for role safety and accuracy
