Custodian - Salem, OR

About the Role

The Oregon Health Authority (OHA), through the Oregon State Hospital's Environmental Services Department, is seeking Custodians to join its team in Salem, OR. The primary objective of this position is to maintain a clean, safe, and therapeutic environment for patients and staff by adhering to established cleanliness standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Clean and disinfect various substances, spills, and incidents as they occur.
• Safely collect and deliver bio-hazard waste and sharps to designated secure storage facilities.
• Perform thorough disinfection of patient wards during infectious disease outbreaks to prevent spread.
• Maintain cleanliness by sweeping, dusting, mopping, and buffing hard floor surfaces.
• Vacuum carpets, apply spot cleaning, and manage trash removal efficiently.
• Scrub, rinse, refinish floors, and perform deep cleaning such as shampooing and extraction on carpets and upholstered furniture.
• Ensure custodial equipment is properly cleaned and maintained for ongoing use.
• Prepare floors and walls to support remodeling and renovation projects.

Qualifications & Preferences

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Require a minimum of six months of experience in custodial work, including the operation of necessary custodial equipment.
• Physical capability to push/pull heavy custodial tools and lift weights up to 50 pounds; must be able to crouch, stoop, bend, stand, and walk for the majority (90%) of the work shift.

Additional Requirements

• Successful completion of a criminal background check according to OHA standards is required before hiring and maintained during employment.

Compensation and Benefits

• Salary ranges between $3,515 and $3,798 per month, with an additional 10% pay increase applicable for Oregon State Hospital Custodians.
