Job description

Overview

The Simcoe County District School Board is hiring a Custodian Project Team member for the Elmvale District HS operations area. This permanent role reports to the Regional Operations Supervisor and is focused on improving cleaning practices, sharing effective methods with other custodians, and supporting special project work. The position requires flexibility to work assigned shifts and travel between locations as needed.

Role summary

The selected person will help lead day or team shift cleaning efforts, coach coworkers on equipment care, new cleaning procedures, and efficient “smart” cleaning methods, and carry out other project-related duties assigned by the Regional Operations Supervisor.

Work location and schedule

Operations area: Elmvale District HS

Status: Permanent

Hours: 8 hours per day; 40 hours per week

Qualifications and skills required

  • At least two years of custodian experience with the Simcoe County District School Board.
  • Strong verbal communication, leadership, and planning abilities.
  • Working knowledge of cleaning techniques, supplies, and custodial equipment.
  • Capability to handle physically demanding tasks such as floor burnishing, scrubbing, refinishing, window cleaning, and wall washing.
  • Ability to work at heights and on scaffolding, including assembly and dismantling, high dusting, and light cleaning.
  • Training in scaffolding use, power lifts, and fall protection.
  • Ability to operate building and custodial equipment safely and effectively.
  • Valid Ontario driver’s licence, with proof required at hiring.
  • Selection testing may be part of the hiring process.

Employment conditions

Participation in the OMERS pension plan is mandatory for all full-time permanent employees, even if the employee already receives an OMERS pension.

This role falls under the CUPE Local 1310 bargaining unit, and employment conditions are governed by the CUPE Collective Agreement, including any applicable union dues.

New hires must provide a Vulnerable Sector Check that is acceptable to the Board before starting work. All new employees must also complete mandatory training modules before their first day.
