Job description
Job Overview
This full-time role involves performing custodial duties on the Tahlequah campus to ensure cleanliness and maintenance of university buildings and facilities during the day shift.
Primary Responsibilities
- Sanitize and clean restrooms including refilling dispensers.
- Dust and wipe down furniture and fixtures across the campus.
- Sweep, mop, vacuum, and maintain floors, as well as perform stripping, waxing, and buffing as needed.
- Empty and clean trash bins regularly.
- Clean classrooms and laboratory areas thoroughly.
- Handle receiving and stocking of supplies; organize storage spaces efficiently.
- Clean up spills and any broken glass to ensure safety.
- Move furniture as required for daily operations and special activities.
- Assist in preparations for special events on campus.
- Report maintenance issues promptly to the supervisor.
- Perform other related tasks as assigned.
Knowledge and Skills Required
- Familiarity with cleaning materials, equipment, and procedures used in public building maintenance.
- Ability to operate, maintain, and repair various custodial equipment.
- Good decision-making and problem-solving abilities.
- Effective communication skills to interact with supervisors, coworkers, and university community members.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
The position requires physical activities such as sitting, standing, stooping, walking, bending, crouching, lifting light to occasionally heavy items, climbing ladders, and handling tools requiring dexterity. Work locations include offices, stockrooms, different buildings, and outdoor areas with exposure to varying weather conditions. The role involves potential contact with noise, dust, dirt, grease, moving machinery parts, infectious agents, and chemicals, requiring the use of personal protective equipment like masks, gloves, and goggles.
Supervision Details
The custodian operates under general direction from the Custodial Services Manager who assigns tasks with some specifics. The supervisor reviews work for compliance and quality.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Basic proficiency in reading, writing, and arithmetic.
- Typically one to two years of relevant experience or completion of an apprenticeship/internship.
- Possession or ability to obtain a valid Oklahoma driver's license appropriate for the equipment operated.
Additional Information
- Annual salary is $25,536, with excellent benefits including generous leave policies.
- Anticipated start date is August 17, 2026.
