Custodian

Position Overview

This role involves performing minor maintenance and custodial duties to ensure the cleanliness and orderly condition of the collection center.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Clean and maintain tables, chairs, cabinets, counters, and appliances in employee break rooms and donor waiting areas.
• Vacuum carpets, dust furniture, and manage waste removal.
• Clean windows and doors daily to uphold appearance and hygiene standards.
• Conduct minor maintenance tasks including changing light bulbs, painting, ceiling tile replacement, minor plumbing, and carpentry.
• Monitor exterior areas like grounds and parking lots, picking up litter as necessary.
• Assist with recycling efforts and repackaging of shipping materials.
• Regularly inspect and clean restrooms, replenish paper and soap supplies, and perform custodial duties within these areas.
• Receive and handle supplies from vendors and transport materials between storage and other designated areas.
• Maintain an efficient, clean workspace and ensure availability of required operational supplies and forms.
• Adhere to Health Safety & Environmental (HSE) and OSHA regulations, prioritizing safety in all tasks.
• Maintain confidentiality regarding all personnel, donor, and center information.
• Be flexible to cross-training in other business areas as required.
• Bilingual abilities may be requested based on operational needs.
• Carry out additional job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent is mandatory.
• Preferably at least three months of custodial experience or an equivalent mix of education and practical experience.
• Ability to comprehend, memorize, and follow both oral and written instructions.
• Effective communication skills to interact with customers and monitor equipment performance.
• Physically able to stand and walk for most of the work period, with abilities to bend, kneel, and have fine manual skills.
• Capability to occasionally lift and carry objects up to 40 pounds.
• Adaptability to fast-paced work environments involving frequent interruptions.
• Regular exposure to hazardous chemicals, temperature extremes, and blood borne pathogens.
• Compliance with mandatory use of Personal Protective Equipment during particular tasks or locations.
• Availability to work overtime and extended shifts to support operational requirements.
