Position Overview
This 12-month, full-time custodial position for the East Penn School District entails providing thorough cleaning and minor maintenance to ensure excellent upkeep of facilities during the 3rd shift from Monday to Friday, 6:30 p.m. to 3:00 a.m. The role reports upward to the Night Foreman, Head Custodian, Assistant Facilities Director, and Facilities Director, with no direct reports.
Work Hours
Scheduled shift is Monday through Friday from 6:30 p.m. to 3:00 a.m.
Employment Details
The position is covered by Teamsters Union – Local 773 and classified as non-exempt under FLSA guidelines.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain school buildings and grounds by performing regular cleaning and minor repairs.
- Unlock and secure buildings, classrooms, and work areas to ensure facility safety.
- Execute routine floor care including mopping, sweeping, vacuuming, and cleaning various surfaces.
- Clear snow from exterior pathways, steps, and other critical outdoor areas when necessary.
- Conduct inspections regularly to identify items needing maintenance or repair and report findings.
- Manage receipt, verification, and distribution of supplies and equipment.
- Carry out scheduled daily and weekly housekeeping of assigned spaces.
- Perform periodic preventive maintenance and deep cleaning of buildings, grounds, and equipment.
- Support special events or facility rentals by performing related custodial duties.
- Maintain accurate records and reports as directed.
- Execute additional assignments as delegated by supervisory staff, including potentially serving as acting foreman or head custodian temporarily.
- Maintain consistent attendance during scheduled hours and perform occasional weekend building checks as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
- Proven ability to successfully perform tasks demanding moderate physical strength and coordination.
- Competency in following oral and written instructions for cleaning and maintenance tasks.
- Ability to process written work orders and complete routine paperwork efficiently.
- Skilled at diagnosing and repairing minor issues using basic hand tools.
- Proficient in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English independently.
- Familiarity with computer operations including completing time sheets, and working with Facilities Management Systems, Email, documents, and AESOP software.
Physical Requirements
- Capability to stand, bend, stoop, sit, lift up to 50 pounds safely, reach, and communicate using vision, hearing, and speech skills effectively.
- Ability to move independently throughout school buildings and office spaces.
- Competent in transporting and handling materials such as boxes, supplies, and trash bins, manually or with mechanical aid.
- Comfortable climbing ladders and working at heights of at least ten feet.
- Ability to reach overhead for storage or retrieval purposes and navigate confined spaces adequately.
