About the Organization and Role
The Ontario College of Family Physicians (OCFP) represents over 18,000 family physicians throughout Ontario. They advocate for family doctors' vital roles in delivering top-tier patient care and provide evidence-based educational and professional development opportunities. This role supports the OCFP's commitment to evolving and responsive professional learning.
The Curriculum Design Specialist will lead the creation, enhancement, and continuous refinement of curricula for the OCFP's professional development programs. This position is a 2-year contract based in Toronto, requiring onsite work, with a pay band between 77,475 and 108,465 CAD annually.
Primary Responsibilities
- Design and develop curriculum for professional development offerings covering clinical, practice management, and leadership topics, ensuring accreditation standards are met.
- Create curriculum maps, define learning objectives, structure programs, and integrate cohesive learning pathways.
- Produce educational materials including learner guides and practical tools that support on-the-job application.
- Ensure curriculum coherence, alignment with adult learning theories, and adherence to instructional design best practices.
- Craft engaging learning experiences across diverse formats such as workshops, virtual sessions, longitudinal programs, and self-paced modules.
- Utilize evidence-based instructional design methodologies to boost learner engagement, retention, and practical application.
- Collaborate extensively with the Professional Development team to coordinate program planning and execution aligned with goals and deadlines.
- Partner with faculty and subject experts to shape content into effective learning experiences and support faculty with clear instructional resources.
- Integrate evaluation mechanisms into curriculum design, analyze feedback, and apply insights for ongoing program enhancement.
- Translate emerging knowledge and research into accessible and practical educational resources, continuously monitoring trends and innovations in professional learning.
- Contribute to developing templates, tools, and processes that improve curriculum design efficiency across the team.
Required Qualifications
- Between 5 to 7 years of experience in curriculum, instructional, or learning design roles.
- A solid grounding in adult learning principles with practical application experience.
- Proven ability to design structured, high-quality learning experiences and materials.
- Exceptional writing and editing skills, capable of clarifying complex concepts into engaging educational content.
- Strong organizational aptitude with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines effectively.
- Experience collaborating with subject matter experts and interdisciplinary teams.
- A degree or diploma in education, instructional design, curriculum studies, or a related field.
Preferred Additional Experience
- Background in professional or continuing education, especially within healthcare or nonprofit sectors.
- Experience working with physicians or regulated professionals.
- Expertise in designing blended, virtual, or multi-session learning experiences.
- Familiarity with program evaluation techniques and quality improvement initiatives.
