Role Overview
As a Criminal Research Specialist at Foley, you will meticulously examine individuals' criminal records to aid in background screening efforts. This role demands a strong eye for detail, analytical aptitude, and strict compliance with legal and ethical requirements. You will coordinate with internal departments to deliver precise and compliant reports to clients.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze database search outputs such as SSN Trace and Nationwide Criminal Database to identify necessary additional searches or aliases.
- Conduct criminal record investigations across courts and public databases, communicating with authoritative sources through phone, email, fax, and mail when deeper research is required.
- Adhere to company policies, federal/state laws, and client-specific mandates throughout the research and documentation process, ensuring thorough records in internal and client-facing notes.
- Produce accurate consumer reports that comply with regulatory standards for Foley's clientele.
- Work closely with quality control and related teams to guarantee timely, high-quality outcomes.
- Engage with customers and vendors as required to provide support and clarification.
- Suggest process improvements and cooperate cross-functionally to enhance operational effectiveness.
- Utilize multiple technology platforms and implement new tools and methodologies to support business advancement.
Candidate Profile
- Possess a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience in criminal record investigations, legal or court systems.
- Experience in background screening, criminal research, investigative work, or law enforcement.
- Comprehensive understanding of the U.S. criminal justice system, including interpretation of court case details and terminology.
- Knowledge of the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) and relevant state regulations, with the ability to maintain compliance standards.
- Exceptional attention to detail combined with strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and adept in web-based research tools.
- Capable of working autonomously while meeting stringent deadlines with accuracy.
Location and Schedule
This primarily remote position is based within the United States, working Eastern Standard Time hours, with occasional onsite attendance required for training, collaboration, and company events.
