Job description
Role Summary
The Crime Analyst role supports law enforcement operations by developing and maintaining analytical information about crime trends, offender patterns, and related intelligence. Working under general supervision, this position turns raw crime data into clear, actionable insights that help guide both preventive and response efforts.
What You’ll Do
You will examine daily crime reports and other internal data sources to identify trends, patterns, and emerging issues affecting the city and surrounding areas. The role includes preparing crime bulletins, suspect profiles, pattern summaries, maps, assessments, and ad hoc reports for police leadership, investigators, and patrol operations.
You will also track gang-related activity and broader crime developments at local, regional, state, national, and binational levels, and share analytical findings in the form of narratives, charts, tables, and maps. In addition, you will support user requests for police data, maintain investigative activity files, and develop or improve databases, research methods, and reporting standards.
Another key part of the job is coordinating with other law enforcement agencies and representing the department in meetings to exchange intelligence, provide updates, and support collaborative efforts. The position also includes supervising staff, assigning and reviewing work, supporting training and performance management, and helping with planning and budget-related tasks for the work area.
Requirements
Candidates should have a bachelor’s degree or higher in criminal justice, business administration, public administration, social or behavioral science, or a related discipline, along with at least 3 years of experience in data collection, statistical analysis, or logistics/operations research/analysis.

Applicants must fully and accurately complete the application with all required education, experience, knowledge, skills, and job duties.
