About the Role

The Credit Manager position for Paygo Phones in Lagos, Nigeria, is an onsite role within the Global Risk and Credit team. This position carries accountability for managing credit and associated risks in the Paygo business. The incumbent is responsible for creating, implementing, and upholding robust credit risk controls and operational procedures to enhance portfolio health and ensure compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and evaluate portfolio performance by identifying customers with default risk through data analysis and direct interaction.
  • Detect portfolio risk indicators (Reflags) and report them promptly.
  • Deliver accurate and timely reports on risk metrics and portfolio health.
  • Analyze regional, area, and product-specific trends, proposing preventive actions to mitigate negative developments.
  • Conduct internal audits to uncover process gaps and verify adherence to policies, including underwriting, collections, welcome, repossession, and customer data changes.
  • Provide detailed audit findings with actionable risk mitigation recommendations.
  • Implement proactive collection approaches, ensuring Know Your Customer (KYC) and underwriting standards improve client quality.
  • Define and lead field collection strategies together with field teams to boost collection efficiency.
  • Review and update policies based on market trends and field insights to optimize portfolio management.
  • Optimize portfolio segmentation by allocating accounts appropriately and recommending segmentation refinements.
  • Manage pilots in the field ensuring they meet success criteria through stakeholder engagement.
  • Investigate reported fraud cases promptly and ensure closure within Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
  • Prepare comprehensive field reports including data aggregation, process documentation, and operational insights.
  • Conduct industry research to propose improvements supporting both sales and collections efforts.

Candidate Profile

  • Bachelor’s degree or Higher National Diploma in Finance, Risk Management, or related business disciplines.
  • At least 8 years of experience in audit, risk, or credit-related functions with minimum 3 years in a supervisory capacity.
  • Certifications in Credit Management, Data Interpretation, Statistics, or Computer Science are advantageous.
  • Strong knowledge of data collection and field survey methodologies.
  • Excellent planning, organizational, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities with great attention to detail.
  • Capability to lead projects, drive process improvements, and simplify complex issues.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with various stakeholders and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Willingness to spend approximately 70% of work time in the field.
