Role overview
The Richmond City Justice Center is hiring a Court Services Office Assistant to support court service operations and administrative processing. This role involves handling phone and walk-in questions about legal papers to be served, preparing documents for officers, entering information into internal systems with accuracy, and coordinating fee collection and deposits.
Key duties
- Respond to telephone and in-person questions related to legal documents that officers must serve.
- Prepare legal paperwork for service within the office’s jurisdiction.
- Enter case-related information into the database quickly and correctly.
- Receive, process, and track fees sent by mail or brought in person, then prepare deposits for those funds.
- Check documents for compliance with Virginia law and confirm that the submitted information is eligible for service.
- Open incoming mail and send out legal return documents.
- Ensure all items are completed for service before the court date shown on the documents.
Candidate profile
The preferred applicant will have a high school diploma and at least three years of administrative experience. Strong English reading, writing, and speaking ability is required, along with comfort using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. Good organization and fast, accurate data entry are also important.
Employment details
This is a full-time, onsite position in Richmond, VA. Compensation is negotiable based on qualifications and experience. The role comes with a competitive benefits package. The opening remains available until it is filled and the position is at-will.
