Job description
Role Overview
We are looking for a Court Security Officer to support the Auckland District Court on a permanent, full-time basis. The role focuses on maintaining a safe, orderly court environment so that people can access justice without intimidation or violence.
This position offers varied daily work, interaction with many different people, and the chance to build strong working relationships while helping deliver professional security services. Training is accredited and there are opportunities to progress into management or specialist roles within the Ministry of Justice.

Key Duties
- Build positive working relationships with a wide range of court users and visitors.
- Carry out security screening and operate CCTV and electronic access control equipment.
- Work alongside agencies and stakeholders such as Police, Corrections, lawyers, and judicial officers to help ensure court proceedings remain safe.
- Patrol public spaces, complete building security checks, respond to duress alarms, and identify, reduce, respond to, and report security, health and safety risks and incidents.
Skills and Experience
- Background in customer service, security, defence, or government is preferred, though not essential because full training is provided.
- Comfortable using technology.
- Experience using de-escalation approaches.
- Physically able to complete and qualify in full-contact officer safety training.
- Must hold and maintain a full clean New Zealand driver licence and a clean criminal record.
- Good understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, including awareness of Tikanga Māori and related cultural matters relevant to the court security environment.

Work Pattern and Additional Information
This is a 40-hour role, Monday to Friday, with paid overtime available when extra coverage is needed. Rostered shifts may also include a minimum 3-hour Saturday shift.
Auckland District Court will be your base location, but operational needs may require travel and work in nearby court locations. The Ministry will cover travel costs.

Salary
The pay range for this role is NZD 60,729 to NZD 80,794 per year. The starting salary depends on your skills and experience.
