About the Role
As a Court Security Officer in Napier District & High Court, you will play a crucial role in ensuring a safe and secure environment for justice to be accessed without fear. This position offers a variety of challenges and rewards, with opportunities to interact with and build relationships with a diverse range of individuals daily. Responsibilities
- Engage with and foster relationships with a wide array of people.
- Conduct security screenings and manage CCTV and electronic access control systems.
- Collaborate with other agencies, including Police, Corrections, legal professionals, and judicial officers, to facilitate secure court proceedings.
- Patrol public areas, perform building security checks, respond to duress alarms, and identify, mitigate, and report security, health, and safety threats and incidents.
Skills and Experience
- While customer service, security, defense, or government experience is advantageous, it is not essential as comprehensive training is provided.
- Proficiency with technology is required.
- Experience in de-escalation techniques is beneficial.
- Must possess the physical capability to complete and maintain Officer safety training, which includes full contact elements.
- A full, clean New Zealand driver's license and a clean criminal record are mandatory.
- Familiarity with Te Tiriti o Waitangi, an understanding of cultural issues, particularly Tikanga Maori, and their relevance to court security are important.

Additional Information
This is a permanent, full-time position working 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with potential for paid overtime when additional coverage is needed. Rostered hours may include a minimum 3-hour shift on Saturdays. The role is based at Napier District & High Court, but may require travel to courts in neighboring regions, with travel costs covered by the Ministry. Salary
The salary band for this position ranges from $60,729 to $80,794 annually. The starting salary will be determined based on the candidate's skills and experience.
