Role overview
The Court Monitor supports the accurate capture and supervision of court proceedings using digital audio recording tools. This position is central to preserving the reliability of official court records through pre-hearing equipment checks, live session monitoring, log maintenance, and secure archiving of recordings. The role also involves day-to-day technical and operational assistance to court personnel and internal teams so hearings can proceed without avoidable interruptions.
What you’ll do
- Check microphones and audio equipment before hearings to confirm the recording setup is working properly.
- Follow live court sessions and log important hearing events into the designated system with accuracy.
- Build, update, and edit hearing log sheets so the record of proceedings remains complete and correct.
- Review, prepare, and store audio files according to established operating procedures.
- Produce daily, weekly, and ad hoc operational reports whenever needed.
- Coordinate with court personnel, judicial officers, and internal teams on hearing schedules and recording activity.
- Handle first-line support for courtroom setup, recording servers, and related audio systems, and escalate more complex issues appropriately.
- Resolve basic issues involving recording systems, hardware, and connectivity to avoid disruption to hearings.
- Carry out Sunday microphone testing independently and ensure assigned courtrooms are ready for upcoming hearings.
- Assist with private logging work, including assignments that may run after 6:00 PM, especially for Supreme Court and private logging matters.
- Protect the confidentiality, security, and proper handling of recordings and hearing-related information at all times.
- Follow court, client, and company procedures, quality expectations, and service-level commitments.
Experience and qualifications
- A Diploma, Higher NITEC, or an equivalent credential is preferred.
- At least 1 year of experience in audio recording, courtroom operations, transcription support, technical support, AV operations, or a similar environment.
- Strong focus on detail and the ability to maintain accurate hearing logs.
- Working knowledge of audio recording systems, microphones, and AV equipment.
- Ability to solve simple technical problems and follow escalation steps when needed.
- Comfort using Microsoft Office, especially Word and Excel.
- Good spoken and written communication skills, with the ability to deal professionally with court staff and other stakeholders.
- Capability to work independently and stay attentive during long court sessions.
- Discretion in handling confidential and sensitive information.
- Flexibility to work Sundays, overtime, and after-hours assignments when operational needs require it.
- Experience in legal services, court reporting, digital recording, or transcription settings will be considered an advantage.
