The Role
ALS is hiring an accomplished and commercially focused Country Manager to oversee its Food business in New Zealand. Reporting to the General Manager ANZ – Food & Pharmaceutical, this position carries end-to-end accountability for the business’s strategy, operational delivery, commercial performance, and leadership of people.
You will guide a strong team spanning laboratory operations, technical services, commercial functions, business development, and client services. The position is central to driving growth, deepening client partnerships, advancing innovation, and ensuring the laboratories consistently meet high standards for quality, safety, and service.
What You’ll Do
- Set the strategic agenda for the New Zealand Food business and make sure it is executed effectively.
- Oversee operational performance across several laboratory teams and specialist functions.
- Take ownership of the New Zealand P&L, including budgets, revenue expansion, and profitability.
- Lead, coach, and strengthen a high-performing leadership group while building future capability.
- Deliver business development, customer retention, and market expansion initiatives.
- Work closely with ANZ and global stakeholders to introduce best practices and emerging technologies.
- Promote digital change, automation, and ongoing process improvement.
- Maintain strong standards in quality, HSE, compliance, and audit preparedness.
- Develop trusted relationships with major customers, regulators, and industry organizations.
- Assess investment opportunities that support the business’s long-term growth.
What We’re Looking For
- Extensive leadership background in laboratory operations or technical services.
- Proven experience managing multi-site or cross-functional teams.
- Strong commercial capability with direct responsibility for full P&L management.
- Demonstrated ability to shape and implement business strategy.
- Experience leading change initiatives and continuous improvement programs.
- Excellent skills in stakeholder engagement and relationship management.
- Strong leadership presence, communication ability, and influencing skills.
- A tertiary qualification in Science, Food Technology, Engineering, Business, or a closely related field.
