The organization is inviting applications for the role of Country Director for the Atlantic Cluster covering Ghana, Sierra Leone, and Liberia, with operations centralized in Accra, Ghana.
Role Overview
The Country Director will provide both strategic and operational leadership for CARE's Atlantic Cluster. The role involves managing diverse, multifunctional teams, fostering relationships with governments, donors, private sectors, and civil society, while ensuring high-impact, sustainable programs. This position demands an entrepreneurial leader adept at navigating complex environments, driving transformational change, and promoting organizational growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute a multi-year strategy aligned with CARE's global priorities and national development agendas of the three countries.
- Lead organizational transformation with innovative approaches, digital tools, and agile operating models.
- Build and nurture a culture of strategic foresight anticipating change and capturing opportunities.
- Inspire, mentor, and empower diverse leadership teams toward continuous improvement and accountability.
- Drive ambitious fundraising efforts targeting institutional donors, foundations, multilateral agencies, and the private sector.
- Forge strategic partnerships with governments, civil societies, and corporate entities to enhance program reach and influence.
- Oversee operations ensuring quality management, compliance, risk mitigation, and efficient resource utilization.
- Champion safeguarding, security, and sound financial stewardship to protect staff and program beneficiaries.
- Promote evidence-based, community-driven programming that integrates innovations and supports local leadership and sustainability.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will be a visionary, agile leader who embraces change and innovation, skillfully builds networks, and thrives in complex environments. Proven experience in strategic growth, team leadership, and operational excellence is essential. Empathetic leadership with a strong focus on delivering measurable development outcomes is highly sought.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Social Economic Sciences, Development, or related fields.
- 6 to 8 years senior management experience within the development sector, demonstrating strategic and operational expertise.
- Proven strategic planning and decision-making capability in international contexts.
- Strong leadership skills encompassing team coaching, capacity building, and conflict management.
- Experience managing multidisciplinary and culturally diverse teams.
- Competency in financial management, donor compliance, budgeting, audits, and reporting.
- Commitment to fostering organizational learning and knowledge dissemination.
Preferred:
- Master's degree in related fields.
- Demonstrated program design, evaluation, and implementation experience.
- Emergency management expertise.
Additional Information
This position primarily targets nationals of Ghana, Sierra Leone, or Liberia, with initial preference for Ghanaian nationals. Travel up to 30% is expected.
