Costuming Technician

Role Overview

The Costuming Technician oversees the upkeep and repair of all costumes, props, and puppets used in live entertainment events, and is also responsible for fabricating new costume and prop elements as required. This role involves close collaboration with senior costuming staff, including the Senior Director of Costuming, seamstresses, prosthetics artists, makeup artists, and attendants, all within the entertainment team to maintain the highest costume quality standards. The technician plays an active role in supporting production, participating in team goals, sharing expertise, and upholding consistent production values throughout various properties.

Main Responsibilities

• Constructs and repairs a range of items including costumes, character/mascot elements, crafts, props, and puppets, using techniques such as painting, airbrushing, gluing, and fixing electrical components.
• Performs alterations and detailed repairs on costumes and props to ensure quality meets show standards.
• Supports daily costume maintenance tasks such as laundry, ironing, steaming, and hanging.
• Assists in maintaining an accurate and current inventory of costumes under direction from the Senior Director of Costuming.
• Monitors and manages supply levels, placing orders as needed in a timely fashion.
• Maintains clear and consistent communication within the Costuming Department.
• Handles additional duties as delegated by senior management.

• May provide team leadership assistance across other entertainment functions.
• Participates in departmental meetings when required.
• Interacts professionally with colleagues and external vendors.
• Supports administrative responsibilities as needed.
• Capable of lifting and moving moderately heavy objects.
• Shares knowledge and best practices with team members.
• Contributes to developing and updating procedural documentation.

Qualifications and Skills

• Completion of higher secondary education or equivalent.
• At least 2 years of practical experience in artistic crafts.
• Skills in painting, drawing, gluing, sculpting, airbrushing, and electrical system repairs.
• Basic carpentry knowledge.
• Experience operating sewing machines and performing hand sewing.
• Familiarity with using adhesives and solvents safely.
• Fluent in English.
• Previous work experience supporting performers directly.
• Proficiency in computer software including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational capabilities.

Preferred Qualifications

• Associate degree or higher in theatre, fine arts, or related fields.
• Five years of fine arts experience.
• Three years working within theme parks, theatrical productions, or cruise ship entertainment environments.
• Background in costume repair and manufacturing techniques.
• Advanced computer skills.
• Specialized knowledge in costume technology and 3D printing.
• Proficiency with industrial and domestic sewing machines.
• Experience handling character and mascot costumes.
• Previous theme park experience.
• Demonstrated people management skills.
