Role overview
The Costing & Budget Controller is tasked with shaping, tracking, and managing project budgets and costs so that financial resources are used efficiently and project goals remain on course. The position supports stronger business decisions through clear cost visibility, sound data analysis, and better allocation of resources to improve project delivery and financial performance.
Core responsibilities
- Create and continuously update detailed project budgets that match the approved scope and cost estimates.
- Check cost assumptions to ensure they reflect project requirements accurately.
- Revise budget forecasts as the project progresses and financial results change.
- Track actual spending against approved budgets and flag any differences.
- Study cost performance and identify the underlying reasons for deviations.
- Apply cost control actions and suggest corrective steps where needed.
- Prepare clear, accurate, and timely reports on budgets and costs.
- Provide variance analysis and financial insights to help guide decisions.
- Maintain dependable, transparent, and consistent financial information.
- Manage cost control systems and protect data accuracy across different tools.
- Improve reporting productivity through system enhancements and automation.
- Assist with digital transformation efforts and the automation of cost reporting workflows.
- Work with IT teams on system upgrades, changes, and improvements.
- Partner with project, procurement, and finance teams on matters related to cost management.
- Contribute to project planning, budgeting, and resource allocation discussions.
- Share cost-related insights during project reviews and performance meetings.
Experience and background
This role requires 5 to 8 years of experience in cost control, budgeting, or project finance. A strong grasp of construction cost structures and the project lifecycle is essential. Prior work in EPC, construction projects, or comparable industries is required. The candidate should also have hands-on experience in budget preparation, cost monitoring, and variance analysis.
Education and certifications
A bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Finance, or a related discipline is required. Professional certifications such as PMP (Project Management Professional) or credentials in Cost Control / Project Control are preferred.
Technical skills
The position calls for advanced Excel and financial modeling capability, familiarity with ERP platforms such as SAP or Oracle, and working knowledge of cost control tools and reporting systems. The ideal candidate should also be able to carry out variance analysis and forecasting, and should have experience building Power BI dashboards for reporting and data visualization.
