Role overview
This position focuses on the artistic creation and upkeep of wigs, facial hair, and specialized makeup for entertainment production. The specialist serves as a technical resource for wig fabrication and styling, advanced makeup, airbrush work, and prosthetic application, while also maintaining supporting documentation for performers and characters.
The role reports to the Cosmetology Manager.
As part of the hiring process, candidates must complete an in-person assessment lasting six hours at Walt Disney World Resort.
What you will do
- Trim, shape, and style wigs and facial hair made from different fiber types and grades.
- Construct wigs from raw materials and keep inventory records of those materials.
- Demonstrate advanced capability in detailed wig styling.
- Apply wigs using advanced methods such as lace-front, blended, or adhesive-based techniques, along with roller sets, makeup, and airbrush work.
- Sew and secure materials such as fur, braids, facial hair, and bonded hair to assemble wigs.
- Create hairpieces including braids, switches, and chignons.
- Operate and care for a range of hair styling tools.
- Prepare and update wig and makeup records using Microsoft Office and Adobe software.
- Assist with performer fittings and training sessions, which may involve exposure to performers in different stages of dress and undress.
- Coordinate with leadership on production quality and output needs as required.
- Monitor work in progress, including budget awareness and schedule tracking.
- Work toward production targets and keep leadership informed on progress to support on-time delivery.
Candidate profile
- Applicants must be 18 years of age or older.
- A valid driver’s license is required.
- Candidates must hold a current Florida cosmetology license.
- At least two years of experience styling synthetic and/or human-hair wigs is required.
- Strong knowledge of advanced makeup application methods is needed.
- The job requires the ability to work outdoors in changing weather conditions and at different elevations.
- This is a physically demanding position involving long periods of standing or sitting, extended walking, and repeated bending, twisting, grasping, and holding objects at or above chest level.
- Applicants must be comfortable working with materials made from natural or synthetic sources, including fur, latex, and mylar.
Preferred background
- Two or more years of experience working as a licensed cosmetologist is preferred.
- Experience building, crafting, or styling complex synthetic wigs is an advantage.
- Experience creating Disney-style character wigs and facial hair is beneficial.
- Background in airbrushing and prosthetics is preferred.
- Ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, and photo editing software is an asset.
