Role overview

The Walt Disney Company is hiring a Cosmetology Specialist for Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida. This position focuses on creating and maintaining wigs, facial hair, and advanced makeup looks for Disney characters, performers, entertainers, and special events. The role also involves documenting wig and makeup standards and supporting production work for world-class entertainment offerings.

You will report to the Cosmetology Manager.

As part of the hiring process, candidates must complete a six-hour in-person assessment at the Walt Disney World Resort.

What you'll do

  • Trim, shape, and style wigs and facial hair made from different fibers and grades.
  • Construct wigs from raw materials and keep track of material inventory.
  • Demonstrate advanced and detailed wig styling techniques.
  • Apply wigs using methods such as lace front, blended applications, and adhesive-based techniques, and perform roller sets, makeup, and airbrush work.
  • Sew and secure materials such as fur, braids, facial hair, and bonded hair into finished wig pieces.
  • Create hairpieces including braids, switches, and chignons.
  • Use, care for, and maintain a range of hairstyling tools and equipment.
  • Prepare and update wig and makeup records using Microsoft Office and Adobe software.
  • Assist with performer fittings and training sessions, which may involve exposure to performers in different stages of dress.
  • Coordinate with leadership on production quality, output quantities, progress, and timeline needs.
  • Monitor work in progress with attention to budget awareness and delivery schedules.
  • Help meet production targets and report status updates to ensure timely completion.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Must hold a valid Florida cosmetology license.
  • At least two years of experience styling synthetic and/or human hair wigs.
  • Proven knowledge of advanced makeup application methods.
  • Ability to work outside in changing weather conditions and at different heights or elevations.
  • Role requires extended standing or sitting, long-distance walking, and repeated bending, twisting, and gripping with hands held at or above chest level for long periods.
  • Willingness to work with materials made from natural or synthetic sources, including fur, latex, and mylar.
  • Preferred background includes two or more years working as a licensed cosmetologist.
  • Experience building, crafting, or styling complex synthetic wigs is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of creating Disney character wigs and facial hair is preferred.
  • Airbrushing and prosthetics experience is preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and photo editing software is preferred.

Additional information

The pay rate for this role in Florida is $24.00 per hour. Selected benefits may be included as part of the compensation package, such as medical, financial, and other benefits.
