Correctional Officer

Role Overview

The Correctional Officer position at St. Martin Parish Correctional Center centers on maintaining a respectful, cooperative, and disciplined work environment. Key Duties

• Carry out pat-down and strip searches as required.
• Prepare written documentation such as incident and disciplinary reports.
• Support secure movement of offenders and oversee related activities.
• Perform both scheduled and surprise security checks throughout the facility.
• Complete safety and sanitation inspections.
• Administer drug screening when necessary.
• Distribute mail to the offender population.
• Maintain offender sign-in and sign-out records.
• Assist with evacuation drills when needed.
• Gather paperwork required for ACA proof records.
• Help serve meals to offenders.
• Operate and monitor offender housing areas, offender intake/processing, or the control room as assigned.
• Handle offender questions, concerns, and emergency situations.
• Conduct headcounts and roll calls.
• Follow and enforce departmental rules as well as accreditation requirements.
• Apply disciplinary procedures and ensure offenders comply with facility regulations.
• Oversee laundry exchange services.

Work Expectations

This role requires a flexible attitude and the ability to work varying hours when needed. In some situations, the employee may be on call around the clock. The scheduled shift length is 12 hours.
