Overview

We are seeking a Human Resources and Payroll Manager based in New York, NY, responsible for overseeing human resources and payroll operations across four boutique hotels in Midtown Manhattan. Reporting directly to the Head of HR, this role demands managing employee relations, HR policies, payroll administration, and compliance, particularly in a unionized hotel setting. This is an on-site position.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure adherence to Rebel Employee Handbook policies.
  • Manage and coordinate payroll department functions and develop procedures to meet payroll objectives.
  • Maintain strong relationships with third-party payroll processors, facilitating accurate payroll processing for corporate and property staff.
  • Handle payroll deductions, including liens, garnishments, and bonuses.
  • Submit weekly corporate overtime reports and compliance spreadsheets regarding payroll procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with tax authorities and oversee tax filing requirements related to payroll.
  • Manage payroll system setup for new properties and time clock arrangements.
  • Initiate new payroll tax accounts as necessary and handle onboarding/removal of staff due to management contracts.
  • Prepare payroll-related reports upon senior management request, including year-end W-2 preparations with third-party providers.
  • Engage in payroll administration training and professional growth activities.
  • Recommend policy and procedural enhancements based on employee and organizational needs.
  • Research industry compensation standards to design salary frameworks and administer benefits.
  • Develop recruitment strategies, conduct interviews, evaluate candidates, and oversee exit procedures.
  • Supervise HR communications, documentation, and team activities.
  • Organize employee records, monitor attendance, schedules, paid time off, overtime, and breaks.
  • Coordinate HR-related events and staff celebrations including birthdays and anniversaries.
  • Schedule comprehensive training programs for hotel employees, such as customer service skills enhancement.
  • Serve as the primary contact for employee inquiries and provide administrative support to the Head of HR and Labor Relations.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum of two years’ experience managing payroll in a hotel environment.
  • At least two years’ experience in human resources within the hotel industry.
  • Experience working in a unionized hotel context is essential.
