Overview

Lumwana Mining Company seeks a highly motivated and committed Coordinator for the Tailings Storage Facility (TSF) to join the versatile Process Plant team at Lumwana Copper Mine in Zambia. The Coordinator will embody Barrick Mining Corporation's values, including transparent communication, integrity, accountability, commitment to zero harm, and building sustainable legacies while fostering strong partnerships.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day management of all TSF operational teams including Operations, Piping & Pumping, Laboratory, and coordination with the Engineer of Record's QA and design teams.
  • Maintain a thorough and current understanding of the TSF design basis, construction history, current performance, and future objectives aligning with corporate requirements.
  • Participate in Potential Failure Mode Analysis (PFMA), risk assessments, and updates to the Critical Controls Management Plan (CCMP) in collaboration with the TSF Superintendent and Engineer of Record.
  • Assist Superintendent in updating and maintaining the Operations Management System (OMS) Manual, delivering operational training on OMS requirements and TARP protocols.
  • Conduct daily routine inspections of the TSF, ensuring compliance with OMS Manual standards, documenting findings, and reporting to the Superintendent each day.
  • Support coordination of Dam Safety Inspections (DSIs) and Dam Safety Reviews (DSRs), including accompanying review panels during site evaluations.
  • Monitor Quantitative Performance Objectives (QPOs) continuously; initiate TARP responses and escalate issues as needed.
  • Collect, analyze, and report geotechnical, hydrological, and environmental instrumentation data; contribute to quarterly monitoring reports.
  • Support emergency preparedness by preparing, testing, and ensuring operational teams are trained and competent in the Emergency Preparedness and Response Plan (EPRP).
  • Ensure proper maintenance of site records and documentation in line with relevant standards.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Mining Engineering, or related fields.
  • At least 7 years of experience in tailings or geotechnical operations, including a minimum of 2 years managing multiple teams in a senior supervisory capacity on an active TSF.
  • Practical experience managing TSF deposition operations, pipelines, pumping infrastructure, and tailings laboratory activities.
  • Experience collaborating with external Engineer of Record or consultant teams during construction or operational phases.
  • Understanding of the Global Industry Standard on Tailings Management (GISTM 2020) and corporate standards such as BCG-MI-ST-01.
  • Registered Professional Engineer with Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ).
  • Proven leadership capabilities managing diverse teams in remote, rotational, 24/7 operational environments.
  • Experience working in sub-Saharan Africa or comparable environments is an advantage.
