Job description
Overview
This role involves supporting the organization and delivery of statewide health education and injury prevention initiatives primarily aimed at reducing preventable childhood injuries. The coordinator engages in educating children, families, and caregivers through hands-on programs, community outreach, and partnerships with local stakeholders throughout Alabama.
Work Schedule
The position is full-time, with day shifts from Monday to Friday at the Main Campus Lee Building.
Key Responsibilities
- Organize and implement evidence-based safety education and resources to community members, focusing on children and caregivers.
- Coordinate injury prevention programs aligning with the Health Education and Safety Center's goals as delegated by management.
- Prepare materials and provide training for community partners, volunteers, contract workers, and support staff.
- Support all activities within the Health Education and Safety Center as needed.
- Communicate effectively with diverse audiences including community members, parents, corporate leaders, and internal staff using excellent writing, speaking, and listening skills.
- Adjust priorities flexibly and meet administrative deadlines, producing required reports and documentation.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in public health, health education, nursing, or a related discipline is required.
- A Master’s degree from an accredited School of Public Health or in fields like Education, Health Education, Health Behavior, Nursing, or Consumer and Family Sciences is preferred.
- Three to five years of experience in community health, health education, outreach, or similar areas is highly desirable.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook is required.
Credentials and Certification
- Possession of a National Child Passenger Safety Technician Certification is required, or commitment to obtain this certification within one year, aiming to progress to Certified Child Passenger Safety Technician Instructor status.
