About the Role

This position is based at the Neumayer III Station in Antarctica, managed by the Alfred-Wegener-Institut Helmholtz-Zentrum für Polar- und Meeresforschung (AWI), Germany's leading polar and marine research facility. The role is offered by Reederei F. Laeisz GmbH, responsible for technical operations of this state-of-the-art polar research station.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and prepare diverse and nutritious meals independently for the station's winter team (around 9 people) and summer team (around 50 people).
  • Manage and document inventory of provisions.
  • Ensure forward-looking stock management and resource planning.
  • Conduct annual complete procurement of supplies.
  • Maintain hygiene, safety, and quality standards around the clock in the kitchen and food areas.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Completed professional training as a cook with verifiable work experience.
  • Proficient German language skills at a minimum B2 level and English at a minimum B1 level.
  • Strong understanding of inventory management, cost calculation, and menu planning.
  • Excellent organizational skills, team spirit, responsibility, and the ability to cope with physically and mentally demanding conditions.
  • Capability to work for extended periods in close-knit teams under extreme environmental conditions.

Additional Information

The contract is fixed-term for a maximum duration of two years, starting July 1. The application deadline is August 31 of each year.
