Overview
The Convenience Site Attendant is responsible for managing the daily operations at the solid waste drop-off convenience center. This position involves assisting customers, monitoring waste materials, and maintaining orderly site activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Greet and assist all incoming customers and visitors.
- Conduct spot inspections of incoming loads to confirm materials are appropriate for disposal.
- Redirect customers with overburdened vehicles to the designated transfer station.
- Manage and coordinate traffic flow between the convenience site and transfer station areas.
- Respond to inquiries from users and the public regarding site operations.
- Keep accurate logs of daily operations including vehicle counts and container usage.
- Supervise the proper use of dumpsters, ensuring they are used for household waste only.
- Monitor dumpster capacity, emptying bins as needed.
- Oversee the activities of Community Diversification workers onsite.
- Occasionally clean the scale house and attached restroom facilities.
Qualifications and Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent education.
- Experience with data entry or record keeping is preferred but not mandatory.
- Must successfully pass a criminal background check.
- Valid Virginia driver's license required; Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is advantageous.
- Availability to work some weekend shifts.
- Physical ability to perform medium-duty tasks including lifting up to 50 pounds and repetitive physical activities such as carrying, pushing, and pulling.
- Strong commitment to safety procedures.
- Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills.
Work Environment and Physical Conditions
The role is primarily performed at a landfill or waste management facility with potential exposure to environmental elements such as dust, odors, temperature extremes, and noise. Physical demands include routine heavy lifting and skilled operations of office equipment alongside clear verbal communication and visual acuity.
