Job Overview

The Fleet Controller leads the daily management of a vehicle fleet, ensuring efficient transportation and timely haulage service delivery, with a particular emphasis on operations in cold chain logistics for clients such as Nigerian Breweries.

Key Responsibilities

  • Planning and optimizing delivery routes.
  • Supervising overall fleet coordination and operation.
  • Maintaining accurate records using platforms such as EDD, Instanta, and I-Manager.
  • Monitoring fuel consumption to enhance productivity, vehicle usage, and cost control.
  • Resolving operational issues promptly.
  • Ensuring vehicle safety and maintenance standards.
  • Maximizing revenue by fulfilling trip targets and order completions.
  • Coordinating transport and logistics activities.
  • Ensuring loading orders are met and goods are delivered to correct destinations, providing status updates during transit and delivery.
  • Updating loaded trucks and trips on I-Manager and closing trips after completion.
  • Monitoring service mileage to schedule timely maintenance within prescribed limits.
  • Guaranteeing that vehicle load does not exceed tonnage capacity.
  • Enforcing adherence to speed limits and escalating violations.
  • Capturing and reporting trip data daily, weekly, and monthly within client locations.
  • Conducting pre- and post-trip briefings for delivery personnel.
  • Holding toolbox meetings to maintain safe operational standards.
  • Liaising with client staff and field officers to resolve operational challenges.
  • Inspecting trucks, trailers, accessories, documents, and safety equipment to ensure safety and efficiency.
  • Documenting incidents, accidents, and insurance claims promptly to minimize downtime.
  • Ensuring all truck documentation is current to prevent delays.
  • Using tracking platforms to monitor and report the status and activities of trucks to enhance delivery timeliness, driver productivity, fleet turnover, and client satisfaction.
  • Issuing fuel via I-Manager in accordance with approved charts and consumption metrics.
  • Ensuring timely receipt of proof of delivery (POD) from clients.
  • Reporting significant issues to the Senior Fleet Controller.
  • Managing and maintaining comprehensive fleet files and records.
  • Controlling diesel consumption and fuel issuance with accurate record compliance.
  • Ensuring health, safety, and security regulations compliance throughout operations.
  • Making sure delivery officers use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) on site and during transit.
  • Conducting effective risk assessments regularly and reviewing them as needed.
  • Coordinating with the Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) department for unresolved health, safety, or security matters.
  • Assuming responsibility for the health, safety, and welfare of all delivery officers under management.
  • Following established health and safety guidelines and procedures.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's (BSc) or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Sciences or Social Sciences, with a minimum Second-Class Lower division/Lower Credit.
  • Professional certifications such as Certified in Logistics, Transportation & Distribution (CLTD), Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT), or Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP).
  • A minimum of 2 to 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Background in supply chain management particularly in related fields.
  • Experience handling third-party logistics (3PL).
  • Expertise in rescue and recovery operations at a high level.
  • Strong capabilities in transport and logistics operations, fleet and driver management, and warehouse management.
