Position Summary

Uplands Elementary School in Terrace, BC seeks a continuing part-time (0.50 FTE) First Nations Language and Culture Teacher, starting September 1, 2026. This role involves promoting Indigenous languages and cultural knowledge within the educational framework of the school and district.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver instruction of First Nations language and culture to students.
• Collaborate as a team member to design and implement tailored learning plans addressing academic, social, and emotional needs.
• Maintain effective classroom management practices.
• Engage positively with students, parents, and colleagues to foster a supportive learning environment.
• Align teaching strategies with school and district goals for enhanced learning.

Qualifications and Requirements

• Valid BC Ministry of Education Teaching Certificate or eligibility to obtain this certification.
• Experience teaching students across various grade levels.
• Familiarity with the revised BC Curriculum including learning standards, curricular competencies, and core competencies.
• Proven ability to develop individualized education plans in collaboration with others.
• Strong classroom management and interpersonal skills.
• Legal eligibility to work in Canada.

Compensation and Benefits

• Salary range between $63,513 and $117,454 (1.00 FTE basis), according to the collective agreement and experience.
• Relocation allowance of $1,000 to $5,000 available for eligible teachers (conditions apply).
• Recruitment and retention allowance of $3,500 paid over ten months based on FTE.
• Isolation allowances for remote communities—$1,287 for Hazelton, $1,528 for Kitwanga, and $4,824 for Stewart—paid over ten months.
• Optional benefits including medical, dental, extended health, and group life insurance per collective agreement.
