Consultant, Mental Health and Suicide Prevention for District Programs

Overview

The Consultant, Mental Health & Suicide Prevention operates within the District Programs team of the School Programs and Consulting division at JED. This permanent, full-time, remote position offers a chance for seasoned student affairs specialists and mental health clinicians to apply their expertise on a national scale. The role involves aiding partner PK-12 districts to design and implement strategic approaches addressing student mental health, substance use, and suicide prevention.

Key Responsibilities

• Establish and nurture relationships with school contacts across a portfolio of about 15 school districts to facilitate successful program involvement.
• Support districts in formulating and executing strategic plans, and in evaluating the effectiveness of their mental health initiatives.
• Provide continuous assistance and act as a resource for JED districts, schools, and program staff regarding mental health promotion, suicide prevention, and substance use programming.
• Conduct comprehensive program reviews and analyze student data from assigned districts to guide recommendations; prepare feedback reports and executive summaries for stakeholders.
• Manage project schedules and monitor institutional progress to ensure timely achievement of program objectives.
• Serve as a subject matter expert on best policies, procedures, and practices related to PK-12 school mental health and suicide prevention, contributing expertise throughout all phases of JED's District Mental Health Initiative.
• Collaborate with leadership on updating program materials and work closely with the School Programs Division on projects, team culture, and educational programming.
• Use Salesforce to document interactions with participating schools, track progress, intervention types, and resource usage.

Functional Ownership

This position holds responsibility for program implementation and technical support within an assigned portfolio of approximately 15 school districts. Duties include strategic planning, needs assessment, data analysis, project oversight, and relationship management for JED’s District Mental Health Initiative and related programs.

Collaboration and Decision-Making

The Consultant engages collaboratively with the broader JED team and reports to senior consultants or directors. They independently oversee school relationships and project milestones, functioning as an advisor and subject expert. Updates to program materials and strategies are done in partnership with JED leadership.

Qualifications and Expertise

• Master’s degree or higher in education, educational leadership, counseling, psychology, social work or a related field; candidates with LPC, MSW, MPH, MEd, or early-to-mid career PhDs are encouraged to apply.
• Thorough knowledge of school-based mental health, social emotional learning, suicide prevention, and substance use prevention.
• Experience in leadership at the school or system level and expertise in managing PK-12 education initiatives.
• In-depth understanding of PK-12 educational systems, including data-driven systemic change, daily operations, and current educational contexts.
• Strong communication skills—both written and verbal—with proven ability to prepare detailed, report-style documents and present confidently to large audiences, including senior leaders.
• Self-motivated and results-driven, possessing strong analytical, research, critical thinking, and problem-solving capabilities.
• Must be located within approximately 60 minutes of an airport to facilitate up to 30% travel to partner districts, conferences, and JED’s New York City office.

• Preferred: 5-7+ years of professional experience working directly within or alongside PK-12 schools/districts.
• Preferred experience in research and program evaluation methods.
• Familiarity with CRM and project management software such as Salesforce and Asana is beneficial.

Compensation and Application

Salary range for this role is $80,000 to $115,000 annually. The application deadline for this position is August 21, 2026.
