Job description

Overview

We are looking for experienced Construction Superintendents to manage field operations of commercial construction projects in Northern Michigan. Working closely with the Project Manager, you will direct daily site activities, coordinate trade contractors, and ensure projects proceed safely, efficiently, and meet quality standards. Your role will span from project mobilization through to final closeout, maintaining compliance with safety, environmental, and timeline requirements. This position is based in Northern Michigan, ideally near Petosky, Traverse City, Charlevoix, Gaylord, Alpena, or Cheboygan.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate subcontractors on site to align their work with project plans, specifications, and schedules.
  • Develop and maintain field priorities, execution plans, and look-ahead schedules to meet important milestones.
  • Supervise daily construction site operations, including subcontractors, vendors, and labor workforce.
  • Enforce safety policies rigorously, halting work when necessary to prevent accidents.
  • Monitor compliance with safety protocols, quality plans, and specification standards, addressing any deviations immediately.
  • Keep accurate records such as daily reports, quality inspections, change notices, and materials logs.
  • Evaluate subcontractor pay applications and change orders for budget and scope impacts to control costs.
  • Communicate progress and upcoming work to owners and stakeholders in site meetings.
  • Manage equipment and material deliveries, inspections, storage, and maintenance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, or related discipline preferred.
  • Demonstrable capacity to manage multiple projects independently in a dynamic environment.
  • Strong organizational skills with experience designing effective procedures and workflows.
  • In-depth understanding of construction and engineering processes, adaptable to changing methodologies and tools.
  • Proficiency with project management software, data automation tools, and Microsoft Office suite including Excel.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of collaborating with diverse teams and interacting at all organizational levels.
