Job description

About the role

This seasonal hourly position sits within Disney’s Animals, Science and Environment and Disney Conservation teams, which focus on protecting wildlife, inspiring care for nature, and advancing science-based conservation efforts. The work supports a mission to help the Walt Disney Company care for animals and the environment, connect people with nature, and conserve natural resources.

The Conservation and Science Marine Aquarium Technician supports animal care, conservation programs, research, and outreach across Walt Disney World Parks & Resorts. The role involves handling multiple priorities and contributing to projects such as animal behavior assessment, environmental and water quality monitoring, and animal care. The position is seasonal and does not guarantee regular hours.

Responsibilities

The selected candidate will help carry out scientific and conservation work with a strong emphasis on animal behavior and sensory environment data. The role may also include hormone analysis, ecological and community surveys, wildlife monitoring, and habitat protection tasks.

Additional duties include gathering, organizing, analyzing, and presenting data; reviewing video content; conducting literature reviews; and maintaining databases and archival systems. The role also involves preparing reports, presentations, and scientific publications, while supporting staff seminars, classes, workshops, meetings, conference presentations, popular articles, and social media content.

Other responsibilities include updating standard operating procedures, providing technical support, maintaining equipment and safe workspaces, managing hazardous waste compliance, ordering and tracking supplies, assisting with quality control, and supporting conservation and science teams with operational and strategic work. The position also supports guest-facing communication, helps create interpretive experiences, and works with external partners to advance conservation, research, and public engagement.

Requirements

Candidates should have strong computer, written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills for audiences of different ages and settings. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel, is required. Experience collecting behavioral data and a working understanding of animal behavior and welfare science, including current research trends and methods, are important.

Applicants should have experience working with or around animals and a genuine interest in animal conservation and care. They must be able to manage multiple projects and deadlines with strong attention to detail and problem-solving ability, work independently as well as in a collaborative team, and be comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions and in public view. The role requires the ability to handle heat, humidity, biting insects, and other field conditions, work 2–3 days per week including weekends, and lift up to 50 pounds.

Preferred qualifications include experience in zoos, aquariums, or wildlife settings; two years of experience in outreach, guest interaction, or public speaking; and technical strengths that can support conservation and science programs, such as data management and visualization, use of R or similar statistics software, scientific equipment maintenance and troubleshooting, data processing and graphing, presentation preparation, scientific writing, and statistical analysis.

Education

A Bachelor of Science in Biology, Marine Biology, Animal or Conservation Science, Psychology or Social Science, Laboratory Science, Science Communication, or a related field is required, or equivalent demonstrated experience. A Master of Science in one of those areas is preferred.
