Role overview
The Compliance Specialist I supports the organization’s compliance and ethics efforts by reviewing alleged misconduct, encouraging adherence to internal policies and legal requirements, and helping strengthen a workplace culture built on integrity and accountability. This position contributes to the design, rollout, and oversight of compliance standards, controls, and processes that help lower regulatory exposure, unethical conduct, and other non-compliant activity across the business. The role partners with internal teams to make sure compliance expectations are clearly communicated, understood, and embedded into day-to-day operations, while also supporting ongoing monitoring and process improvement.
Compensation and contract details
- Pay range: $46 to $48 per hour on W2.
- Engagement length: 1 year.
- Work location: Houston, TX 77079.
Key responsibilities
- Review allegations of misconduct, policy breaches, and other compliance concerns.
- Collect, examine, and evaluate records, supporting documents, and other evidence tied to investigations.
- Help build and sustain compliance standards, controls, policies, and procedures that reduce regulatory and operational risk.
- Support programs that encourage ethical behavior and adherence to laws, regulations, and company rules.
- Track compliance activity and flag possible risk areas or signs of non-compliance.
- Record investigation outcomes, create reports, and share corrective action recommendations when needed.
- Work with internal stakeholders to incorporate compliance requirements into business workflows and practices.
- Assist with compliance audits, assessments, and monitoring work.
- Support the creation and distribution of compliance communications, training, and awareness materials.
- Keep thorough and accurate files for investigations, compliance activities, and program documentation.
- Help improve compliance processes, controls, and reporting methods over time.
- Encourage a workplace culture centered on ethics, integrity, and accountability.
Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Legal Studies, Compliance, Finance, Human Resources, or a closely related discipline is required.
- Prior experience in compliance, ethics, risk management, investigations, audit, human resources, legal, or regulatory work is preferred.
- Working knowledge of compliance principles, regulatory obligations, and corporate governance practices.
- Strong analytical and investigative ability, with a disciplined approach to reviewing information objectively and identifying risk.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills.
- Comfort handling confidential and sensitive matters with discretion and professionalism.
- Well-developed organizational skills and strong attention to detail.
- Ability to juggle several priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively across teams and levels.
- High integrity, sound judgment, and a strong commitment to ethical business practices.
