Role Overview

We are seeking a Community Ranger based at Bullers Hill, Kennford, Exeter, focused on supporting the Mid Devon beat team. This role is pivotal in maintaining safety and welcoming conditions within our forests by conducting inspections, carrying out minor maintenance, and providing a visible presence for visitors. A key responsibility involves enhancing the Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) at Haldon through contract oversight, working alongside forest craftsmen, and organizing volunteer activities.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist the Mid Devon beat team in maintaining safety and visitor friendliness across the forest areas.
• Conduct regular inspections and handle minor repair tasks to sustain forest facilities.
• Engage with stakeholders to communicate Forestry England’s mission and projects, promoting positive community relations.
• Manage contracts and coordinate volunteers to support the conservation and improvement efforts at Haldon SSSI.

Work Location and Hours

This position is onsite at Bullers Hill, Kennford, Exeter, within the West England Forest District, overseeing a vast area covering 38,500 hectares from Shrewsbury to Cornwall. The role offers a 37-hour workweek.

Employment Details and Benefits

• The appointment is fixed-term until 31st March 2029, with potential extension or conversion to permanency.
• Salary offered is £30,105 per annum.
