Role overview
Ventia is looking for a capable Communications Technician – Inside Plant to support important infrastructure across the power network in Twizel. The position is centred on low-voltage power systems and communications equipment operating in controlled environments.
What you will do
In this role, you will handle the installation, commissioning, testing, and upkeep of communications and power systems that keep network operations running smoothly.
- Set up and commission low-voltage DC power systems, including battery testing and routine maintenance.
- Deploy and commission transmission platforms such as OTN, MPLS, SDH, and PDH.
- Test and commission inside plant communications equipment.
- Diagnose faults and resolve issues across communications and DC power systems.
- Install, splice, and terminate copper and fibre optic cabling.
- Read, interpret, and update technical drawings, diagrams, and schematics.
- Working at heights experience is considered an advantage.
- Electrical registration will also be an advantage.
About you
You should be technically strong, safety-minded, and comfortable working in critical infrastructure, power, or telecommunications settings.
- Experience installing and commissioning low-voltage power plant systems.
- Understanding of battery systems and testing processes.
- Exposure to protection systems is desirable.
- Practical experience with fibre splicing and installation.
- Solid troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
- Good physical fitness and the ability to work on ladders.
- A team-oriented attitude and a strong commitment to safety.
