Job description
About the opportunity
A national nonprofit working in the postsecondary and research space is hiring a bilingual Communications Officer to support its mission. This position helps connect a broad community of scholars, researchers, and institutions through communications that strengthen awareness, engagement, and knowledge sharing across Canada.
The role focuses on shaping how stories are presented, how events are promoted, and how key initiatives are communicated. You will partner with a collaborative, high-performing team on activities tied to major conferences, thought leadership, and national-level engagement.
What you can expect
This organization offers a mission-driven environment that values curiosity, teamwork, and ongoing development. It encourages initiative and creative thinking, while providing exposure to prominent events and stakeholders. The workplace is supportive, flexible, and geared toward growth in communications, marketing, and digital engagement.
Work arrangement
This is a permanent remote role operating on EST hours. If you are based in Ottawa, there is an option to work from the office 1 to 2 days per week. In that case, you will also be expected to attend one all-staff meeting each month and one annual staff retreat.
Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver communications activities tied to major events, programs, and organizational projects.
- Write clear and engaging content in both English and French, including announcements, social posts, email campaigns, and website copy.
- Create marketing materials for audiences such as members, partners, and policymakers.
- Work closely with internal teams, outside vendors, and creative collaborators to keep projects moving.
- Coordinate advertising, sponsorship exposure, and communications with partner institutions.
- Maintain a consistent brand voice and visual identity across digital channels and event assets.
Requirements
- At least 2 years of experience in communications or marketing.
- Working knowledge of digital communications tools, content management systems, and design software such as Adobe Creative Suite or Canva.
- Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with stakeholders, suppliers, and partners.
- Strong organization, time management, and prioritization skills, with the ability to work independently and handle multiple deadlines.
- A dependable, detail-oriented approach with good punctuality, accountability, and a proactive mindset.
