Job description
Your Role as a Commodity Buyer
As a Commodity Buyer at MAHLE, you will oversee purchasing activities for specified commodity groups, ensuring timely procurement of components that meet quality standards while achieving cost targets.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough market research to collect data on pricing, supplier capabilities, and technical updates within your commodity segment.
- Coordinate with internal stakeholders to clarify technical requirements, specifications, and demand forecasts.
- Ensure pricing and delivery schedules align with project demands and operational timelines.
- Analyze and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and quality standards.
- Select suppliers for Request for Quotation (RFQ) processes and manage technical validations.
- Lead value analysis/value engineering (VA/VE) initiatives and oversee supplier delivery performance.
- Develop and implement purchasing strategies collaboratively with supervisors and lead buyers.
- Support continual enhancement of sourcing processes and cost optimization efforts.
- Conduct negotiations on quantities, prices, delivery conditions within authorized limits.
- Prepare negotiation documents, aid in strategic negotiations, and coordinate internal decision-making.
- Perform detailed price analyses to assist in procurement decisions and identify cost-saving opportunities.
- Initiate supplier validations and cost-reduction measures such as VA/VE.
- Manage purchasing projects to meet cost, quality, and scheduling goals.
- Coordinate cross-functional teams involving customers, internal departments, suppliers, and production sites.
- Provide leadership when purchasing is the project lead, including planning, work allocation, progress monitoring, and reporting to management.
- Ensure adherence to company standards, methodologies, and align with MAHLE's global commodity strategies.
- Conduct supplier visits and meetings domestically and internationally as necessary.
- Handle internal and external procurement reporting tasks.
- Lead negotiations and support MSP realization for purchased components.
Qualifications and Experience
- University degree or equivalent professional experience; background may be technical or business-related.
- 2 to 4 years of experience in purchasing or procurement preferably within the automotive sector.
- Strong technical understanding coupled with effective negotiation skills.
- Familiarity with manufacturing and production technologies.
- Knowledge of quality management tools and standards such as TS 16949, FMEA, SPC, MSA, GD&T, and problem-solving methodologies.
- Excellent commercial insight and cost analysis abilities.
- Proficiency in MS Office and SAP R/3 at an intermediate to advanced level.
- Demonstrated proactive, results-oriented approach with excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to work effectively across multicultural environments.
- Fluent English communication skills are required; additional foreign language skills are advantageous.
