Role overview
This position is for a Commis III in the Food and Beverage & Culinary function at Sheraton Hotels & Resorts in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates. It is a full-time, non-management role based on-site at Al Muntazah Street, Sharjah.
Kitchen preparation and cooking
The role involves preparing ingredients for cooking by portioning, chopping, and storing food correctly. You will also wash and peel fresh fruits and vegetables, measure and combine ingredients, cook dishes according to recipes and established quality and presentation standards, and follow the kitchen preparation checklist. Cold food preparation is also part of the job, along with operating ovens, stoves, grills, microwaves, and fryers.
Food quality and workstation upkeep
You will be expected to check whether food is cooked properly, monitor food quality throughout the preparation process, set up and clear down the workstation, serve food in appropriate portions and containers, and keep kitchen surfaces, tools, knives, equipment, and tables clean and sanitized. The role also includes verifying that appliances and food are held at the correct temperatures.
Safety, conduct, and team support
The position requires compliance with all company, safety, and security procedures, including reporting maintenance issues, accidents, injuries, and unsafe conditions to the manager. You must complete any required safety training and certifications, maintain a neat and professional appearance, safeguard confidential information and company property, communicate clearly and respectfully, and build positive working relationships. The role also calls for flexibility to perform additional duties requested by supervisors, as well as the ability to stand, sit, or walk for long periods, bend and reach as needed, and move items weighing up to 25 pounds without assistance.
Education and experience
The preferred qualification is a high school diploma or GED equivalent. At least 1 year of related work experience is expected, and no supervisory experience is required. No license or certification is needed.
