Role Overview

The Commercial and Business Investment Analyst will play a pivotal role in shaping how the organisation evaluates and manages expenditures and investment decisions. This high-impact position collaborates with senior leaders and multiple business functions, including Operations, Property, Technology, and People & Culture, to enhance the rigor and discipline of decision-making processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a consistent business case framework, including templates, standards, and guidance for project and investment proposals.
  • Coach managers to prepare detailed, evidence-based business cases outlining problems, options, financial impacts, operational effects, risks, implementation requirements, and expected benefits.
  • Apply commercial insight to evaluate investment proposals, providing constructive challenges and encouraging innovative service delivery approaches.
  • Partner with Commercial Finance to manage project setup, budgeting, reporting, and benefits tracking to ensure accountability post-approval.
  • Contribute to refining business processes, workflow designs, and governance controls to enhance decision quality and outcomes.
  • Utilise strong Excel skills and quickly adapt to new systems for data analysis and modelling.

Skills and Experience Required

  • Experience in preparing comprehensive business cases, investment proposals, or commercial decision-support documents.
  • Proficient in financial modelling techniques such as cost-benefit, sensitivity, and scenario analyses.
  • Able to translate complex data into clear and actionable recommendations for both operational and non-financial audiences.
  • Experience designing frameworks, templates, and processes aimed at increasing consistency and decision-making quality.
  • Detail-oriented, analytical, curious, and skilled at constructively questioning existing assumptions.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain effective relationships across teams and leadership levels.
  • Highly organised with the capacity to proactively manage multiple priorities.
  • Advanced Excel proficiency and ability to rapidly acquire new technical skills and systems.

Preferred Background

  • Experience within aged care, healthcare, social infrastructure, or other service-oriented industries.
  • Familiarity with project governance, project management office (PMO) practices, or benefits realisation processes.
  • Knowledge of business intelligence and reporting tools.
  • Formal training in project management, business case preparation, or continuous improvement methodologies.
