Role Overview
The Clinical Triage Specialist is responsible for delivering prompt and effective telephone triage and patient support, facilitating timely healthcare access and ensuring suitable clinical responses. This role demands robust clinical assessment capabilities, strong communication skills, and a dedication to high-quality, patient-oriented service.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide telephone triage by evaluating patient symptoms, medical history, and concerns, using clinical protocols and judgement to prioritize care and offer appropriate medical guidance, including referrals or emergency advice.
- Deliver compassionate patient assistance, addressing inquiries and concerns, offering education on self-care, medication, and follow-up procedures, while accurately documenting all interactions in the electronic health record (EHR) system.
- Coordinate patient care by managing appointment scheduling, arranging referrals, and supporting communication among patients and healthcare professionals to ensure seamless care delivery.
- Comply with clinical guidelines and confidentiality standards, including HIPAA regulations, while engaging in quality improvement efforts to enhance the safety and effectiveness of triage services.
- Maintain and expand clinical knowledge and triage expertise through ongoing education, training, and professional development activities.
Qualifications & Experience
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in Arizona.
- At least 2 to 3 years of experience in clinical healthcare, ideally with telephone triage or in ambulatory care settings.
- Strong clinical judgement and prioritization skills to assess patient needs effectively.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities suited for interaction with patients, families, and medical teams.
- Proficient in EHR systems and other clinical technology tools.
- Capable of working autonomously in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with multiple competing demands.
- Devoted to delivering patient-focused care that enhances the patient experience.
