Job description
Role overview
The Clinical Science Liaison is a field-based medical affairs professional who supports the rollout of medical strategy under the guidance of Medical Science Liaisons and the Medical Affairs Manager. This position helps strengthen relationships with key opinion leaders, healthcare providers, and hospital-system stakeholders while working closely with medical affairs colleagues, sales partners, and other internal teams to deliver compliant support across the product lifecycle.
This is a development-focused role intended to prepare the successful candidate for progression into an MSL position after a structured period of mentoring, training, and demonstrated performance.
Location and travel
The role requires living near a major airport in one of the southeastern states: North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, or Tennessee. Domestic travel is expected at approximately 60% to 70%.
Key responsibilities
- Partner with MSLs to identify and cultivate peer-to-peer relationships with key opinion leaders and healthcare professionals in the relevant therapeutic area.
- Help build and carry out territory plans that align with U.S. Medical Affairs priorities.
- Collect, organize, and share field-based clinical insights with MSLs and the appropriate internal teams.
- Take part in educational programs for healthcare professionals, including presentations at customer sites, investigator meetings, advisory boards, and regional or national conferences.
- Assist with congress coverage, advisory boards, journal clubs, and sales training activities alongside the medical affairs team.
- Work with hospital pharmacy stakeholders to support formulary education and product utilization discussions.
- Contribute to internal initiatives such as slide deck creation, speaker preparation, and review of investigator-initiated research proposals.
- Keep current on disease-state knowledge, competitive products, and regional healthcare trends.
Skills and qualifications
The role calls for someone who understands the pharmaceutical industry, medical affairs operations, and relevant therapeutic areas. The candidate must be able to read, interpret, and present scientific and clinical information accurately and in a compliant manner. Strong planning, relationship-building, and presentation abilities are essential, along with clear written and verbal communication. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook is required. The ideal candidate is self-driven and comfortable working independently in a field-based setting.
Experience and education
An advanced degree in a medical or biosciences field such as PharmD, DNP, PhD, or M.D. is preferred. Candidates with a Master’s or Bachelor’s degree may also be considered if they bring relevant clinical or industry experience. At least 1 year of experience in a clinical, pharmaceutical, or related healthcare role is required. Background in cardiology, electrophysiology, or pediatrics is preferred. Experience in hospital systems, especially with formulary processes, P&T committees, and EMR platforms, is an added advantage.
Important notes
This role is positioned as a development path toward an MSL career. The selected candidate will be expected to grow through mentorship, formal training, and performance-based progression.
