Position Overview
We are seeking a Clinical Research Project Director to lead complex global clinical research and evidence development initiatives from planning through successful execution. This remote role based in Germany involves strategic oversight, financial management, team leadership, and fostering client partnerships to ensure projects meet regulatory, budget, and timeline standards. You will oversee cross-functional teams, drive operational excellence, and contribute to business growth while shaping overall program strategies.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide leadership and operational management for multiple international clinical research projects, ensuring adherence to scope, budget, deadlines, and quality benchmarks.
- Mentor and guide Project Managers and interdisciplinary teams to foster collaboration, accountability, and high performance throughout project lifecycles.
- Manage project schedules, financial tracking, resource planning, forecasting, invoicing, and contract administration to guarantee positive operational and commercial results.
- Establish and sustain strong client relationships, acting as the senior operational liaison, leading governance meetings, and addressing project issues proactively.
- Implement comprehensive risk management by identifying potential challenges, applying mitigation strategies, and monitoring risks continuously.
- Ensure compliance with clinical research regulations and guidelines such as ICH-GCP, FDA, EMA, GDPR, and company quality standards.
- Support business development by assisting with proposals, budgeting, presentations, bid defenses, and nurturing client engagement.
- Advance departmental capabilities through process enhancement, resource planning participation, recruitment, performance management, and adopting best practices across project delivery.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences, Healthcare, Business, or related fields; advanced degrees like Master's or PhD are preferred.
- 12 to 15 years’ experience in clinical research operations within CROs, pharmaceutical, biotech, or medical device sectors.
- At least 10 years in progressive project management or clinical operations leadership, including management of global clinical programs.
- Previous roles as Project Director or Director of Clinical Operations, or similar senior leadership positions, are highly desirable.
- A minimum of 5 years managing teams, with proven success in leadership and mentoring.
- In-depth knowledge of global clinical development, evidence generation, project management processes, and operational clinical research standards.
- Strong familiarity with international regulations and standards including ICH-GCP, FDA, EMA, EU Clinical Trials Regulation, GDPR, and related legal requirements.
- Experience overseeing project budgets, financial forecasts, contract changes, resource allocation, and vendor relationships.
- Excellent leadership, stakeholder engagement, negotiation, communication, analytical, and decision-making abilities, capable of managing multiple priorities in a dynamic global setting.
- Proficiency in project management tools and Microsoft Office suite.
- Willingness to travel internationally up to 10% of the time.
