Job description
Overview
The Oncology and Haematology Clinical Trials (OHCT) team at Guy’s & St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust operates renowned clinical trials to advance cancer treatment and improve patient quality of life. This role offers an exceptional chance for Band 5 nurses to develop skills and experience in haematology research nursing, working in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify and recruit suitable patients for haematology clinical trials, supporting patients and their families throughout their participation.
- Manage a caseload of haematology trial patients, delivering nursing care within the Research Governance Framework and professional guidelines.
- Safely administer trial medications, including investigational medicinal products and systemic anti-cancer therapies (SACT), monitor patient side effects, and report findings appropriately.
- Provide comprehensive administrative support to the haematology research team, including maintaining site files, creating worksheets, transcribing and managing trial data, resolving queries, completing case report forms, and maintaining trial activity databases.
- Contribute to the operation of national and international Phase I, II, and III haematology clinical trials, ensuring compliance and best practices.
Experience and Skills Required
- Extensive clinical nursing experience with strong attention to detail and high accuracy.
- Capability to work independently and effectively manage time and diverse responsibilities.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to engage with patients, families, and clinical teams.
- Ability to balance clinical and non-clinical research duties efficiently.
- Competence in administering trial drugs and monitoring patient responses as per clinical protocols.
Team and Environment
The OHCT team within King’s Health Partners comprises over seventy professionals, including research nurses, clinical research practitioners, data managers, administrative and safety support staff. The team collaborates closely with oncology and haematology medical services to recruit and monitor patients in various trial phases and tumor groups, with a strong focus on early phase trials in a clinical research facility.
