Job description

Role overview

The Clinical Informatics Analyst will support improvements in clinical workflows, analyze and validate clinical data, and help shape evidence-based decision making across Health Services. This is a clinically oriented position focused on practice, usability, and the experience of end users. The selected person will collaborate closely with the Health Services EHR team as well as technical teams handling EHR configuration and development.

Key duties

  • Document existing clinical workflows, identify process gaps, support improvements for staff-facing operations, and help standardize practices across state facilities.
  • Create and maintain a documented inventory of HSU clinical workflows within the EHR, along with prioritized recommendations for improvement.
  • Extract data from the EHR to address clinical and operational questions, then verify it against dependable source data.
  • Develop reports and visualizations that support practice decisions and leadership planning with evidence-based insights.
  • Set up a repeatable approach to clinical data extraction and reporting, including finished reports that answer active HSU questions.
  • Review EHR updates from the user’s perspective and perform validation/testing, including coverage for the base system and support for MAR and related project work.
  • Work toward measurable reduction in validation gaps when EHR changes are introduced.
  • Serve as a responsive clinical contact for EHR-related questions and requests, while building clear documentation and handoff processes for continuity.

Required experience and expertise

  • Proven ability to independently structure unclassified medical data from unstructured text and map it to standard vocabularies for interoperability, clinical decision support, coding, and analytics.
  • Strong working knowledge of medical vocabularies from both clinical and informatics perspectives.
  • Extensive hands-on experience extracting data from electronic health record systems.
  • Ability to translate clinical questions into data analysis using EHR information.
  • Experience validating EHR data against outside reference datasets.
  • Experience cross-checking EHR data by triangulating it with other information inside the EHR.
  • Demonstrated practice documenting how clinical workflows translate into EHR data entry and data management.
  • Solid experience applying national EHR standards to an EHR product.
  • Experience standardizing processes during an EHR implementation.
  • Background in analyzing and documenting clinical workflows in multidisciplinary care settings.
  • Ability to communicate findings clearly to non-technical audiences, including medical staff and leadership.
  • Experience working with multiple stakeholder groups in a multidisciplinary clinical environment.

Preferred background

  • A clinical or medical background such as nursing, medicine, pharmacy, or a related field is preferred.
  • Experience in correctional or institutional healthcare is desired.
  • Experience in other constrained, multidisciplinary healthcare environments may be considered as a substitute.
