Role Overview
The Client Account Executive serves as the crucial intermediary connecting the commercial team, clients, and international carrier partners. Responsibilities include managing pricing and invoicing for international partners, preparing competitive quotations, negotiating with maritime and air shipping lines as well as local transport providers, and assisting the Business Development team in converting prospects into confirmed shipments. This role demands meticulous attention to detail, commercial acumen, and outstanding customer service skills.
Primary Responsibilities
- Respond promptly and accurately to freight quotation requests across air, sea, and land transportation.
- Develop and submit detailed, competitive proposals and requests for quotations within agreed timeframes.
- Validate pricing according to contractual agreements and perform market-based price research.
- Maintain and update pricing, tariffs, and rate databases for international partners.
- Ensure accurate billing and timely invoicing in alignment with contractual terms.
- Establish and sustain robust relationships with shipping lines, airlines, co-loaders, and local transport vendors.
- Negotiate both ad-hoc and long-term contracts to maintain market competitiveness.
- Keep abreast of market dynamics including surcharges and fluctuating carrier rates such as GRI, PSS, and BAF.
- Serve as the primary contact for assigned client accounts regarding pricing and service solutions.
- Engage with customers to gather feedback on quotations and understand outcomes to enhance pricing approaches.
- Track shipment bookings from origin to delivery and offer consultative advice on market and shipping strategies.
- Collaborate with Sales, Business Development, and Operations teams to support tendering, lead conversion, and shipment execution.
- Maintain customer-accessible status and milestone reports and provide periodic reporting on pricing performance and market intelligence.
- Identify inefficiencies and suggest improvements to elevate customer service standards.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or Higher National Diploma in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or related disciplines.
- Professional certifications in Logistics, Procurement, or Freight Forwarding considered a plus.
- At least 3–5 years’ experience in freight forwarding focusing on Pricing, Commercial roles, or Key Account Management.
- Proven success in negotiating rates with major shipping lines (e.g., Maersk, MSC, CMA CGM) and airlines.
- Strong knowledge of Incoterms 2020 and an understanding of air freight, sea freight (FCL/LCL), and local transport operations.
- Exceptional numerical and analytical skillset with keen eye for details.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, able to articulate complex pricing information clearly.
- Persuasive, solution-oriented with solid problem-solving capabilities.
- Proficient in MS Office, especially advanced Excel; experience with freight forwarding software like CargoWise or Logisys advantageous.
- Organized, proactive, and able to perform under pressure in a dynamic environment.
