About the Role

Herefordshire Council invites applications for the permanent position of Clerk of Works within the Highways and Public Realm team. This role involves a 37-hour workweek and offers a salary range of 39,777 to 345,091 annually under HC 9 grading.

The team is undergoing transformational changes to bring highways and public realm services back under direct local authority management, with enhanced local accountability, flexible operations, and a strong focus on delivering quality and value.

Key Responsibilities

The Clerk of Works will be actively engaged on-site to monitor and oversee council capital and developer-funded construction projects. This role acts as the Council's supervisory representative, ensuring all work meets the highest standards of quality and compliance with contracts.

Candidate Profile

  • Experience serving as Supervisor on NEC or equivalent contracts within construction projects.
  • In-depth knowledge of road construction materials, specifications, regulatory standards, testing procedures, and construction methods.
  • Proven ability to negotiate and liaise with external developer parties and manage communications among diverse stakeholders.
