Overview

Join the Highways and Public Realm team at Herefordshire Council during an exciting transformation period. The council is bringing highways and public realm services back under direct control with a focus on enhanced flexibility, accountability, quality, and value for residents. This permanent role offers an opportunity to contribute directly to essential community services, such as road maintenance and public space upkeep.

Main Responsibilities

As Clerk of Works, you will conduct on-site supervision of council capital and developer-funded construction projects. Your role includes ensuring the delivery meets expected standards and quality through active presence and oversight on location.

Candidate Profile

  • Proven experience supervising construction projects, particularly with knowledge of NEC contracts or equivalent frameworks used by the council.
  • Strong understanding of road construction materials, standards, testing procedures, and building processes.
  • Competence in negotiating and liaising with external developers and multiple stakeholders involved in projects.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Annual salary range between £40,777 and £45,091 (HC 9 grade).
  • Full-time hours of 37 per week, with a flexible working arrangement including part-time possibilities and job sharing.
  • 31 days of annual leave (pro-rated) plus bank holidays; option to purchase up to 10 extra days annually.
