Job description
Role overview
Aneurin Bevan University Health Board is looking for an enthusiastic and driven clerical and administrative team member to support its Radiology Directorate in Newport. The position is based across the Royal Gwent Hospital and St Woolos Hospital, with the main workplace at Royal Gwent Hospital. This is a part-time post of 22.5 hours per week, spread over 3 days, and it requires flexibility to cover the reception desk for those days.
The successful applicant will play an important part in the Radiology team, helping to manage inpatient and outpatient appointments and ensuring patients, visitors, and service users receive a courteous, efficient, and professional experience.
This appointment is fixed term for 12 months and is being offered as a secondment due to service requirements. Anyone applying for the secondment must first get approval from their current line manager.
Main duties
- Handle patients in line with local and national performance targets, while delivering a welcoming reception and processing radiology request forms.
- Greet patients and visitors at a busy front desk and help maintain high standards of data quality.
- Process radiology referrals promptly across Aneurin Bevan University Health Board.
- Work closely with colleagues, the radiology referral and booking manager, and the booking service team to keep waiting times as low as possible.
- Maintain a professional, approachable, and polite manner when dealing with people both in person and by telephone.
Candidate profile
Experience in reception work, familiarity with IT systems, and a customer-focused approach are central to this role. Previous exposure to radiology would be an advantage, and strong communication, organisation, and initiative are important. Welsh language ability is welcomed but not required.
Additional information
Applications are encouraged from people with protected characteristics, including disabled and neurodiverse candidates, as well as members of the Armed Forces Community. Welsh-language applications are welcome and will be treated the same as English-language applications.
If you need adjustments or support during the recruitment process, you are encouraged to discuss this directly with the named manager in the advert. You do not need to share personal or medical details unless you choose to. Support is available for alternative formats such as larger print or braille by contacting the recruiting manager or the Health Board recruitment team on 01495 745805 option 3 or by email at abb.vacancyrequests@wales.nhs.uk.

The Health Board may close the vacancy early, and it may also be withdrawn if the role is filled through the internal redeployment process. Flexible working is supported.
The Health Board operates a smoke-free policy across all sites, and smoking is not allowed anywhere on its premises for staff, contractors, patients, or visitors.
The Band 3 salary scale has been revised as part of the NHS Agenda for Change pay award for 2026/2027 and is due to be introduced in August 2026, backdated to 1 April 2026 where applicable.
